I can’t believe I didn’t discover this sooner, but the folks who brought us the Lizzie Bennet Diaries have returned with a new web series based on Jane Austen’s Emma! It’s called Emma Approved, and it is pretty freakin’ adorable! Here’s Episode 1:
Yes, Emma’s self-confidence is grating and borderline crazy, but that’s part of her charm! Subsequent videos reveal that while she is incredibly determined and doesn’t take no for an answer, she also really cares about her friends and wants them to be happy. So far I’m really enjoying this adaptation, and I can’t wait to see what happens next! Videos are posted Mondays and Thursdays, and there’s still plenty of time to catch up! 🙂
I am loooooving Emma Approved. Emma bugged me at first, but I adjusted quickly — Emma’s my favorite Jane Austen book anyway, so I was an easy get. :p You know it’s going on hiatus in January? It sounds like the creators have been super overwhelmed, and need some time to regroup and work on the next couple of story arcs.
Aw, crap, I didn’t know that about the hiatus. I will undoubtedly experience withdrawal pangs…but at the same time, I’d rather the creators take the time they need to make something great than churn out something sub-par in a hurry. I’m optimistic that it will be worth the wait!
Also, I think it’s cool that Emma is your favorite! For me, P&P is always at the top of the list, and Mansfield Park is always at the bottom (sorry, Fanny Price!), but the other four books shift around a lot. Lately I’ve been liking Emma more and more, though, after having re-watched the Romola Garai adaptation recently.
I’m disappointed about the hiatus because I loved how it was matching the time of year to the books. We should be coming up to the Christmas party soon, if I’m recalling the plot correctly.
Aww, that’s true — we should be getting to the Christmas party (or modern equivalent) really soon! After watching today’s video, I was already feeling very squirmy/awkward, so I can only imagine what’s coming…
I love this series, too. I especially like that Mr. Knightley is ON SCREEN and not off camera for more than half the series, such as Mr. Darcy!
Yesss, totally agree! Especially since the actor playing Mr. Knightley is very adorable and charming. 🙂
