It’s the first day of spring! The calendar says so, and even the weather is cooperating (for now)…which means it’s time for Carl’s annual Once Upon a Time Challenge!
But while it may be called a “challenge,” the rules are very simple: Read one or more books that fit within the genres of fantasy, fairy tales, mythology, or folklore. There are many different levels of participation, so even if you can only read one book that fulfills the criteria, you should still join!
I’m going to attempt Quest the First, which requires me to read five books. I’m not 100% sure what I’ll read, but possibilities include The Grimm Legacy by Polly Shulman, Transformations by Anne Sexton, and The Curse of Chalion by Lois McMaster Bujold.
I had some problems with The Grimm Legacy but I enjoyed it for the most part. I hope you do too. Happy reading!
Well, now I’ll have to read it and see if I can spot what your issues were!
I’m curious by The Grimm Legacy as a title…I’ll look forward to your thoughts!
I don’t really know what to expect, but the premise sounds fun (magical artifacts from fairy tales are real, and you can check them out of the library!). I’ve read another book by Polly Shulman (Enthusiasm) and liked it, so I figured I should try more of her stuff!
Transformations by Anne Sexton is wooooonderful! I hope you get around to it.
It’s on deck for April! I’ve read and liked a few of Anne Sexton’s poems, but I still have a lot more to learn, so I’m excited!
