This weekend is my library’s semi-annual book sale, so of course I’ve been there twice already! Here’s what I’ve picked up so far:
Evelyn Waugh, The Loved One — Supposed to be one of his funniest books, and it’s dedicated to Nancy Mitford! I have a craving to read this back-to-back with Mitford’s The Blessing, which she dedicated to Waugh. But would such reciprocity create a tear in the space-time continuum?
Donna Moore, Old Dogs — Someone recommended this to me as a hilarious caper, and how could I resist that?
Elisabeth Sanxay Holding, The Innocent Mrs. Duff / The Blank Wall — This author is supposed to be one of the pioneering novelists of suspense.
Jennifer Robson, Somewhere in France — I’d been eyeing this WWI-era novel in Barnes & Noble, so I’m glad I had the chance to pick it up for a much lower price!
Sophie Kinsella, I’ve Got Your Number — Read this a couple years ago and thought that it was one of Kinsella’s best books.
Georgette Heyer, Simon the Coldheart — I’m only a few Heyers away from a complete collection at this point!
Georgette Heyer, The Grand Sophy — I actually already had a copy of this one. *blush* But it’s my favorite Heyer, and this edition is nicer and has a prettier cover!
Paula Byrne, The Real Jane Austen: A Life in Small Things — I do love me some Austen, and I’ve read and enjoyed some of Byrne’s other work, so this one should be a winner!
Total cost: $24, and everything is in very good shape! I’d like to get back to the book sale tomorrow, but I don’t know if I can make it work. But either way, I’m definitely pleased with my haul!
I love good used book finds! I recently picked up The Grand Sophy too – on your recommendation.
Well, now I really hope you like it! 🙂
Wow! You must live in a literary town! Great selections!
Thanks! I’m lucky to live in a very populous city with a great library system.
Looks like a really good haul here! I loved I’ve Got Your Number! Definitely one of her best!
I’ve Got Your Number was so cute! Can’t wait to re-read it on a beach somewhere…
Nice! Excellent finds at an excellent price!
Why thank you! I know some book sales do deeper discounts (like stuffing a whole bag full of books for $5), but I still got my haul for a lot less than I would have gotten them new!
I adore library book sales. They are my kryptonite. Loved I’ve Got Your Number as well.
Definitely my kryptonite as well! I went to this one three days in a row!
Great book haul! And that’s awesome that you’re almost close to completing your Heyer collection 😀 That reminds me that I should check out her other books at one point; sort of trailed off the other year, lol
Haha yesss, she’s so good! I love her as a comfort read between tougher books.
