Tune in Tuesday with Katelyn: I’m feeling better ever since you know me

Tune in Tuesday-pinkI’ve decided I like the band OneRepublic. They’ve had several radio hits, and they all sound different to me; the band isn’t just churning out the same old stuff, and I really appreciate that. So this week I’m sharing OneRepublic’s “Feel Again,” just because it’s uplifting and it makes me happy!

Tune in Tuesday with Katelyn: There but for the grace go I

Tune in Tuesday-pinkSo when I was in college, I was a member of the pep band (yes, I was that cool). We played at all the home games for men’s basketball, and also occasionally for men’s hockey and women’s basketball. It was a ton of fun, and we played music from a lot of different genres, including my pick for this week’s Tune in Tuesday! I’m sure you’ll all recognize this song, which still gets played on the radio sometimes — and if not, you should at least recognize the band from “Clueless”! Here is “The Impression That I Get” by the Mighty Mighty Bosstones — and if you’re watching the video, look out for the guy in the background who is neither singing nor playing an instrument!

Tune in Tuesday with Katelyn: You ain’t ever gonna burn my heart out

Tune in Tuesday-pinkFor this week’s Tune in Tuesday, I’m going a little retro with a song that came out in 1996 — although honestly, I have no memory of listening to it in the ’90s! But it came on the radio the other day and has been in my head ever since. The intro sounds an awful lot like John Lennon’s “Imagine,” but I can overlook that (mostly because I hate “Imagine,” but that’s another story). Here’s Oasis with “Don’t Look Back in Anger”:

Tune in Tuesday with Katelyn: I’m’a pick you up in a Cadillac

Tune in Tuesday-pinkSometimes I like to think of myself as a music snob, scorning the top 40 radio stations in favor of something a little more sophisticated or “cool.” But then I find myself bopping along to a catchy pop hit, and I have to admit that sometimes I just want to listen to some Katy Perry or Ke$ha! So here’s the particular pop hit that’s been in my head all day: “Classic” by MKTO. Watch the video if you’ve got a few minutes — these boys are adorable!

Tune in Tuesday: The only time I feel all right is by your side

Tune in Tuesday-pinkOh man, I’ve gotten so far behind with this blog! Not only do I have 7 reviews to write (yes, SEVEN), but I haven’t done a Tune in Tuesday post in, like, forever! So I’ll try to make this one count by picking a classic song, one that I always belt out at the top of my lungs when it comes on the radio! Here’s “All Day and All of the Night” by the Kinks:

Tune in Tuesday with Katelyn: It’s doomsday on the other side of town

Tune in Tuesday-pinkFor this week’s Tune in Tuesday I’m sharing yet another song from Pandora (my Arkells station, if anyone’s interested!). It’s a little bit silly, but the video is very topical, considering the popularity of post-apocalyptic fiction these days! 🙂 The artist is one of those ’90s bands that I was sadly unaware of at the time, but lately I’ve heard and enjoyed several of their songs. So anyway, here is Phantom Planet with “Do the Panic”:

Tune in Tuesday with Katelyn: In June I change my tune

Tune in Tuesday-pinkI stayed up way too late last night, watching the “How I Met Your Mother” series finale and then watching the Internet explode. (Count me among those who really, REALLY didn’t like it…maybe I’ll do a post later this week!) As a result, I was pretty much asleep with my eyes open all day, and I felt the need for some soothing, lullaby-ish music. So for this week’s Tune in Tuesday, I’m sharing an odd little piece called “Cuckoo!” composed by Benjamin Britten as part of a larger piece called “Friday Afternoons” (Op. 7), which is a set of 12 songs specifically composed for a children’s choir. This recording is by the Choir of Downside School, Purley, and was used in the soundtrack of “Moonrise Kingdom.” So, probably too much information. 🙂 But I hope you enjoy!

Tune in Tuesday with Katelyn: She runs guns, everyone wants guns

Tune in Tuesday-pinkFor the past few weeks I’ve been listening to a Frightened Rabbit Pandora station at work, and it’s been introducing me to a lot of great music! So for this week’s Tune in Tuesday, I’m sharing a song that never fails to get stuck in my head whenever it comes on. Here’s Jeremy Fisher with “Scar That Never Heals.” It actually reminds me quite a bit of Simon & Garfunkel…something along the lines of “Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard.” Or is that just me?

Tune in Tuesday with Katelyn: Shh, shh

Tune in Tuesday-pinkSpeaking of dance shows, lately I’ve been re-watching the short-lived ABC Family show “Bunheads” and mourning the fact that it was canceled far too soon. It definitely had its weak spots; the tone was frequently uneven, and the teenagers’ constant references to decades-old pop culture definitely strained belief. But it did contain a lot of the witty comebacks and pitch-perfect emotional moments that made “Gilmore Girls” (Amy Sherman-Palladino’s other, more successful show) so great…and also, there was dancing! So for this week’s Tune in Tuesday, I’ve picked a song that was featured as a dance sequence on the show, in the episode “You Wanna See Something?” It’s performed by Lucy Woodward on the show, but I actually quite like a different version…so here’s Björk with “It’s Oh So Quiet”:
