Tune in Tuesday with Katelyn: I was the one who showed you the sky

Tune in Tuesday-pinkI have a somewhat embarrassing confession to make: Over the past week or so, I’ve been binge-watching “Dance Academy,” an Australian TV show about teens at an elite ballet school. And even though I am about 15 years too old for the show, I kind of love it! It’s full of melodrama and teen angst, but there’s also something very sweet and sincere about it. And all the actors are extremely talented dancers as well..I’ve always been a sucker for dance movies! ๐Ÿ™‚ So for this week’s Tune in Tuesday, I’m sharing a song that has been stuck in my head since I finished watching the show:ย “Easy to Love” by the Jezabels. The whole cast dances to it in the Season 2 finale after one of those big dramatic tragedies that so often occur on this type of show.

And here’s the dance, if you’re interested:

Tune in Tuesday with Katelyn: Why would I stop loving you a hundred years from now?

tune in tuesday - love song pt. 2For the past month, I’ve been sharing some of my favorite happy, up-tempo love songs in honor of Tune in Tuesday’s Love Song Edition. But now that February is drawing to a close, I thought I’d slow things down and pick something less bouncy, more heartfelt. So this week, I give you “It’s Only Time” by the Magnetic Fields. The lead singer’s voice isโ€ฆan acquired taste, but the song is really quite sweet and lovely if you give it a chance. Hope you enjoy!

Tune in Tuesday with Katelyn: There goes my baby

tune in tuesday - love song pt. 2Valentine’s Day is over, but the Love Song Edition of Tune in Tuesday is still going strong! This week I’ve picked a song by one of my favorite bands of all time; but oddly enough, this particular song is an homage to another musical artist, the King himself. So if you want to see Freddie Mercury doing an impression of Elvis Presley (and/or the cast of “Grease”), be sure to watch the video! But either way, here’s “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” by Queen. Enjoy!

Tune in Tuesday with Katelyn: I wanna kiss you every minute, every hour, every day

tune in tuesday - love song pt. 2I remember when this song came out. I was in college, and I didn’t really know what to make of it. Why did it sound like it had traveled in time from the 1970s? Why is the video so disturbing? Is the lead singer possessed by Freddie Mercury’s evil twin? But despite all of these urgent questions, I couldn’t help belting out this song at the top of my lungs with my friends. One of the girls in my college group got married a couple years ago, and this song totally played at her wedding. ๐Ÿ™‚ So for today’s love song edition pick, I give you “I Believe in a Thing Called Love” by the Darkness:

Tune in Tuesday with Katelyn: I’m gonna be the man who wakes up next to you

tune in tuesday - love song pt. 2It’s February (already!), which means it’s time for another Love Song Edition at Tune in Tuesday! I’m very excited for this theme, being a sucker for a good love song. ๐Ÿ™‚ Last year I picked some of my favorites byย John Hiatt, Pete Townshend, Great Elk, and the Cure; this year I pledge not to repeat any of the same songs or artists! My first pick for this year is “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” by the Proclaimers. I’ve known this song since I was a kid, and I don’t think I ever realized it was a love song until quite recently! Enjoy the sheer happiness, everyone:

Tune in Tuesday with Katelyn: I miss your face like hell

Tune in Tuesday-pink I feel like I’m always sharing songs from TV and movies — is that weird and/or obnoxious? I just tend to discover more songs I like that way, rather than by listening to the same 5 songs the radio plays over and over again. So anyway, this week I am sharing a song that will forever make me think of the bittersweet series finale of “Chuck.” It seems to encompass both emotional turmoil and hope, which makes it perfect for the show’s final scene. Here is “Rivers and Roads” by The Head and the Heart.

Tune in Tuesday with Katelyn: You and me, we both got sins

Tune in Tuesday-pinkArgh, it’s getting hard for me to come up with intros for my Tune in Tuesday song choices! Suffice it to say, I wasn’t having a great day, but this song came on the radio and cheered me up. It’s almost too sappy and lovey-dovey, but sometimes that’s just what you need. Also, I’d like to learn this song on guitar so that I could play an acoustic, folky version — can’t you hear it that way in your head? So anyway, here’s the Goo Goo Dolls with “Come to Me”:

Tune in Tuesday with Katelyn: They say you stand by your man

Tune in Tuesday-pink

It’s the first Tune in Tuesday of 2014, so I wanted to make it special by sharing one of my very favorite songs in all the world. I believe I’ve mentioned before that I have a thing for jaunty songs about heartbreak, and this one is a classic! I think I heard Annie Lennox’s cover first, oddly enough, but the original song is much better! So without further ado, here’s “Train in Vain” by the Clash:

And if that video was too boring for you, here’s a pretty good live recording with a faster tempo:
